Aircraft flown by John C. MacDonald Crew #519 was damaged by flack over France. They radioed they would try to make Switzerland on two remaining engines and were never seen or heard from. Unknown crash site.
May 11, 1944- Listed on Wall of Missing at American Cemetery at Cambridge


HARD LUCK B-24J #44-40253


"Bottlebutt's Buggy" was the name of the aircraft flown by Earl Wassom. It was named for his physique. Earl was over 6 foot tall and was known for his large posterior- thus the nickname "Bottle-Butt". Living in the same Hut at Attlebridge was another pilot, Charles Saxon. Charles was a famous artist who drew cartoon figures of famous people for the New Yorker Magazine. He made a design for Earl's B-24. Unfortunately, the design was never painted on the airplane! Aircraft was flown by Quentin Bailey Crew #662. On October 12, 1944 on a mission to Osnabruck they were hit in the wing by a flak burst and spun in to the ground. 10 KIA
